Course Objectives: | The aim of this course is to provide dental students with knowledge about the development of primary and young permanent teeth, the mechanism of dental caries formation, and strategies for caries prevention; to equip them with skills in behavior management, clinical examination, and basic treatment planning for pediatric patients; and to develop their foundational knowledge and competencies in restorative treatments and endodontic approaches in pediatric dentistry |
Course Content: | - Understanding the definition and scope of pediatric dentistry - Describing the anatomical, physiological, and morphological features of primary teeth - Comprehending tooth development and eruption processes - Identifying the influence of vitamins and hormones on dental development - Evaluating normal occlusion and closure relationships in children - Classifying and explaining dental developmental anomalies with examples - Performing general and head-neck examinations in pediatric patients - Learning intraoral examination principles specific to children - Analyzing the etiology, formation mechanism, and risk factors of dental caries - Explaining methods of caries detection and diagnosis - Learning strategies for caries prevention (nutrition, plaque control, prophylaxis) - Applying systemic and topical fluoride treatments and fissure sealants - Understanding psychological development stages in children and appropriate communication strategies - Implementing behavior management techniques in pediatric patients - Identifying basic dental materials used in pediatric dentistry - Learning treatment approaches for caries in primary teeth - Grasping restorative principles for young permanent teeth - Explaining endodontic treatment principles in primary and young permanent teeth - Recognizing endodontic materials used in pediatric dentistry |
