Course Objectives: | The main purpose of this course is to analyze the factors of changes in the characteristics and dynamics of the evolutionary stages of human development in history. To discuss indicators of human development from social, economic and cultural perspectives and to examine the relationship between technological innovations, social welfare and inequalities. |
Course Content: | Social Evolution. Types of societies: Hunter and gatherer, agricultural, industrial and post-industrial societies. Technological innovation, wealth, power and inequality. Antinomies of Progress. Agricultural Revolution, Industrial Revolution, Democratic revolutions. Development and freedom. Culture and social structure. Technological causalism and its criticism. Human development in today's world. Informatics and communication in developing societies. |
