Course Objectives: | This course aims to understand politics via (probably) the most popular field of culture: films. It introduces students to the basic issues, concepts and ideologies of politics and how those are represented, and also criticized, in selected movies. The subjects that will be covered in this course include cold war and deterrence, (anti)militarism, (post) colonialism, gender politics, capitalism, migration, ethnic conflict, social movements/resistance, fascism/dictatorship, totalitarianism and racism. |
Course Content: | The Relationships between Politics and Film; Politics in Movies; Politics of Movies; Film as a Medium for Illustrating, Defending, and Challenging Political Ideas; Critical Content Analysis; Film and Totalitarianism; Film and Colonialism;Anti-Colonialism; Film and Violence; Film and Gender. |
