Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Qanun is one of the main instrument of Turkish Music. It has around 3,5 octaves and belongs to the stringed and plucked instrument family. The etymology of this name; although it is accepted that derived from the word canon, which means rule and base, according to the researches it is derived as Qanun from Arabic language. It is known as “kanonaki” in other languages but as “Qanun” in Turkey, Iran and Arabic countries. In many of the sources, it is stated that the Qanun instrument was invented by Abu Nasr Muhammed Bin Turhan Bin Uzağı Farabi (870-950), who is known as the great philosopher and musical scholar of that time, who was originally a Turk.
