Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: To have necessary knowledge about important film theorists

To learn the post-production process

Examine a film with technical and aesthetic aspects

To be able to read the basic features of dramatic narratives to be established with cinema, video and television image and sound, and the process of story formation
Course Content: To learn the basic concepts of film design by discussing a linguistic analogy with film

To have information about the basic distinctions of film such as shooting, plan, sequence, chapter

The meaning of fiction in film making and basic editing approaches

To have information about the effect of camera and camera shooting techniques on film narration

Lesson Plan

1) Introduction to the basic concepts of film, establishing the connection between film and grammar .
2) Examination of basic concepts such as shooting, stage and sequence through examples .
3) Production of samples with video camera by comparing the concepts of shooting, scene and sequence over familiar samples .
4) Idea, treatman and scenario and the anatomy of a film through these concepts .
5) Relationships between story and aesthetic-visual choices, study through examples. .
6) What is film design, how to design a film? Design-film relationship .
7) Examination of shooting scales, proportions and angles and their effects on film formation .
8) Midterm .
9) Practice of all the concepts examined through a sample video shoot .
10) Discussion of production and post-production processes. The concept of assembly and examination of assembly types with basic examples in world cinema .
11) Montage theories and cinematic approaches that emphasize assembly. Assembly technique and basic assembly programs, linear and non-linear editing .
12) Theoretical information about light and lighting in a film production. Lighting methods and basic effects .
13) The effect of sound and effects in a film production. Discussion of dubbing, sound effects, foley, diegetic and non-diegetic sound and other concepts related to sound .
