Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide students with basic percussion instrument knowledge and skills, to develop the sense of rhythm and to provide the ability to play the beginner-level repertoire.
Course Content: Learning about percussion instruments.
Learning and applying basic hitting techniques.
Developing the sense of rhythm.
Ability to play beginner percussion instrument repertoire.

Lesson Plan

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Introduction to percussion instruments, concepts of rhythm and introduction of percussion instruments. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
2) Exercises on rhythm exercises and basic hitting techniques. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
3) Individual stroke techniques, finger usage and rhythm arrangements. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
4) Percussion notation and rhythm reading skills. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
5) Studies on rhythm combinations and simple percussion examples. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
6) Introduction and student trials of various percussion instruments. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
7) Studies on rhythm groups and beat arrangements. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
8) Exercises on tempo and dynamics control. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
9) Rhythmic melodic passages and simple percussion compositions. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
10) Rhythm variations and student group performances. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
11) Rhythm exercises suitable for different types of music. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
12) Music theory regarding rhythm and percussion instruments. Course resources will be provided to students weekly.
