Course Objectives: | • Explain domestic financial markets and institutions and how firms obtain funds in the financial markets and at what cost. • Apply basic valuation concepts. • Measure a firm’s risk, explain what determines this risk, and how this affects the value of a firm. • Manage a firm’s working capital efficiently. |
Course Content: | This course will investigate the various banking and finance industries through an examination of the segments of these industries and appraisals of the financial and management skills that future managers need to succeed. The course pedagogy is enhanced with student-led discussion regarding current events in global financial markets. Students gain insights into the development and characteristics of the different industries through popular trade magazines, newspapers, Internet sources, and text. To obtain an understanding and ability to use basic business financial management concepts and tools of analysis such as valuation, risk-return relationships, financial statement analysis, capital budgeting, cost of capital, capital structure, and working capital management. To become familiar with the various types of financing available to a firm. |
