One of the departments that make up the cardiovascular surgeon's surgery team in open cardiovascular surgery is the Department of Perfusion Techniques. According to the report of the American Cardiovascular Perfusion Academy published in 2003, Perfusion Technician is defined as a person who takes the role of perfusion (circulation) by using the cardiopulmonary machine to isolate the cardiopulmonary system so that the operation can be done in cooperation with the surgeon and the anesthetist in the interventions to be performed on the heart and large vessels requiring extracorporeal circulation.
