Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives:

The purpose of this course is to introduce the students to the fundamental concepts and topics of political science with the aim of making them literate in political science in particular and social sciences in general. The course is composed of two parts: the first part introduces the main concepts of political science and the second part talks about the political systems and actors in politics.

Course Content:

Politics vs. political science; state and nation; state and society; power, authority and sovereignty; democracy and legitimacy; political ideologies; democratic systems; authoritarian and totalitarian systems; executive, legislature and judiciary; bureaucracy, military, interest groups and non-state actors; social movements; regional and international organizations; globalization and the future of the nation state.
