Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to explain ethics in dentistry and medicine; define the path of being a good doctor and the necessaries; describe WHO regulations on medical ethics; define the act of malpractice and underline to be a doctor who is discerned of patient rights.
Course Content: • Describe the educational periods necessary to become a good doctor, past and now • Describe the permission to practice as a doctor, legislations, competency, qualifications and licencee • Identify and illustrate the permission for competency to practice as a doctor
• Describe the principal features of medical ethics • Identify and illustrate the formation and development of ethics in medicine • Define the main ethical issues of medicine
• Identify and illustrate the World Health Organization (WHO) medical ethics principles • Describe the the development of WHO principles on ethics • Identify and illustrate the historical examples related with the WHO ethics
• Define the professionals in health sciences • Name the medical professionals in a health team • Recognize the organization of a medical team, roles and responsibilities
• Identify rights of the human being as a patient • Describe the legal status of a patient • Recognize the rights of the patient according to Turkish Code of Obligations, Turkish Health Legislation and the Turkish Criminal Code
• Define the malpractice • Recognize malpractice in the Criminal Code • Identify and illustrate the act of malpractice
