Course Objectives: | 1. Takes the correct history from the emergency room patient and performs the physical examination of the patient. 2. Recognizes urgent and very urgent problems. Learns what to do in case of a patient who needs resuscitation to the emergency department. 3. Recognizes the situations that require emergency help outside the hospital and learns the necessary interventions. 4. Knows what to do in cases of death and death in the emergency room. 5. Makes differential diagnosis in common complaints such as respiratory distress, chest pain and abdominal pain. 6. Knows effective diagnosis and treatment practices of diseases such as acute asthma, congestive heart failure and bronchitis. 7. Directs the care and treatment of the trauma patients in the emergency department. Learns the basics of emergency room care of poisoned patient. 8. Learns the principles of emergency care of injured/sick people due to environmental factors. |
Course Content: | The purpose of this course is to gain essential emergency medicine knowledge. Students should integrate the knowledge they have obtained in medical school so far to focus on evaluation and treatment of acute presentations. Students describe the importance of effective communication at all levels for patient care in the emergency department, and demonstrate effective communication skills. Students appreciate the clinical challenge of managing multiple patients simultaneously, each at different stages of evaluation and treatment. Prerequisites: MED501, MED502, MED503, MED504, MED505, MED506, MED507, MED508, MED509, MED510, MED511, MED512, MED513, MED514 and MED515. |
