Course Objectives: |
The aim of this course is to give information about the engineering properties of soils and to teach the basic principles of soil mechanics.

Introduction to Soil Mechanics, Rock types, Formation of soils, Particle-Size Distribution, Unit weight of soil, Weight-Volume relationships, phase diagrams, Plasticity and structure of soil, Classification of soils, General principles of compaction, Compaction Test, Permeability and Permeability Test, Bernoulli's equation, Darcy's law, Laplace's equation, Flow nets, Calculation of leakage from flow nets, In situ stress, Mohr's circle, Mohr–Coulomb failure criterion, Shear strength of soil, Shear Strength tests, Fundamentals of Consolidation. |
