Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of the course: Student learn museum history and museum kinds. They understand relate between museum and education and learn education programs from the type of museums about different child groups. They get to know relete between museum education program and preschool program.They can prepare museums education program for preschool children.

Course Content: Museum and education relationship, methods of using museums in preschool education, developing a museum education program

Lesson Plan

1) Introduction, informing the course about the content. What is a museum? definitions.
2) Museum types: art history museums, art museums, history museums, science museums and other museums.
3) Purposes of the museum: collection, protection-maintenance-repair, documentation, exhibition, education.
4) History of museum education: in Western cultures and in Turkey.
5) Museum and education.
6) The tasks of the trainers in the museums.
7) How is the museum training done? a) Inside the museum, b) Outside the museum (in schools).
8) Ara Sınav
9) The methods to use of museum in education: pre-museum visit.
10) The methods to use of museum in education: museum visit.
11) The methods to use of museum in education: post-museum visit.
12) Visiting (visit different museums in Istanbul)
13) Project presentations of groups: Program and activity development for pre-museum visit.
