Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to provide information on the structural and functional properties of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and proteins, which are the basic building blocks of life, the conversion of genetic information encoded in nucleotide sequences in genetic materials into protein form (replication-transcription and translation); comprehensive communication package, DNA repair mechanisms, and all genetic diseases.
Course Content: At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Nucleic acids DNA and RNA structure- DNA - RNA types
2. Central birth- replication- transcription- translation
3. Genetic terms- genetic concepts
4. Gene level mutations and chromosomal mutations
5. DNA repair mechanisms
6. Mutagens
6. Epigenetics and genetic diseases
