Course Objectives: | The primary aim of this course is understanding of the history, theory and practice of 'Video Art' by through screenings, readings and discussions. During the course, basic discussions on Video Art will be explored, concepts such as media, timeliness, space and presentation will be re-examined through examples and practical exercises. |
Course Content: | Sony's portable video camera technology, launched in 1965 on the market, brought images and production out of the monopoly of the television and advertising industry for the use of artists and activists. The handheld camcorder and portable video cassette recorder were relatively inexpensive and easy to use compared to the heavy and expensive technology used by television professionals. In this way, the video enabled the opening of a new field of experimentation in art in a short period of time and at the same time the concepts such as media, space, audience, body and image production were reconsidered in the context of art history. |
