Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: To give information about disorders that occur in organs and tissues, to teach the necessary terminology and laboratory techniques for operating the operating room and pathology laboratory in harmony.
Course Content: General pathology / includes special (systemic) pathology / operating room and pathology laboratories of each organ.

Lesson Plan

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Pathology laboratory presentation, laboratory functioning. Cytological and histopathological examinations. Biopsy and biopsy types
2) Cellular adaptation, cell injury, cell death
3) Physiopathology of inflammation. Definition of acute and chronic inflammation, causes, cells and consequences
4) Introduction to immune system, Basic immunity, Cells involved in immune response.
5) Pathology of immune system. Hypersensitivity diseases, immunodeficiency diseases, autoimmune diseases
6) Tissue renewal and repair. Wound healing
7) Fluid - Electrolyte balance: Functions of water and electrolytes, fluid movements between vascular tissue and tissue-cell
8) midterm exam
9) Fluid - Electrolyte balance disorders: Edema, Hyperemia - congestion, Hemorrhage, Shock Thrombus, embolism, ischemia, infarction
10) Etiology: Physical, chemical agents, genetic diseases, metabolic diseases
11) Neoplasia I- Nomenclature of tumors, structural features of benign and malignant tumors. Cancer staging and grading.
12) Neoplasia II- Tumor epidemiology and tumor etiology.
13) Neoplasia III- Diagnosis and early diagnosis of tumors. Treatment methods
14) Examination of pathology laboratory as applied. Macroscopic and microscopic application
