Course Objectives: | Set design in cinema is related to fulfilling the requirements of film shooting, from in front of the camera decorations to landscaping and location dressing. As a result of this set design, the location in the movies is both the working area of the art departments and an element of the story in the movie. In this course, artificial and natural spaces in cinema, three-dimensional use of space and cinema-city studies will be examined and it will be shown how films can present the space as a character through the use of these designs. |
Course Content: | Focusing on the importance of set design in film shooting, creating scenery in front of the camera and how environmental arrangements are made. Examination of how location supports the character and story in the film, discussion on the role of location in storytelling. Analysis on the use of artificial and natural spaces, how artificial spaces are created in set design, and the function of real spaces in the film. Three-dimensional use of space and depth, its effect on the atmosphere and meaning of the scenes, its role in the visual expression of the set. Evaluation on cinema-city studies and the role of cities in film locations, the characters of cities and how they are represented in films. |
