Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives:

This course focuses on basic translation acquisition for students of translation. It introduces students to translational approaches that will be functional in real business conditions. The course also helps students to acquire background knowledge about the nature of translation and the translation process of different text types and thus raise their awareness of translation problems and their possible solutions.

Course Content:

Norm, style, function, and content in translation. Linguistic and cultural aspects of translation. Equivalence problems in translation. Text types, purpose, and related translation strategies. Applications on the informative and functional texts. Translation as a profession, the place of the profession in the world and Turkey.
