Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to provide general information about the basics of medical terminology for those who study the health disciplines and health institutions. Moreover, this lecture aims to help students communicate with their colleagues and other health personnel and make it easier to learn the meaning of manmade structures and classification of diseases and related information to teach.

Course Content: • describe the basics of medical terminology.
• analyze the medical terms based on their structures prefixes and suffixes.
• define and recognize the whole body, sickness, diseases, symptoms in the systematics of medical terminology.
• define selected diagnostic for each body system diseases.
• define surgical procedural terms for each body system diseases.

1) Basic rules of word formation, prefixes, suffixes, reading rules of consonants,
2) Singular and plural meanings of words, meanings of important prefixes, examples and meanings of general-symptomatic-surgery -diagnostic suffixes,
3) general terms used in health field, examination terms and techniques,
4) Drug forms and routes of administration, abbreviations used in drugs, general drug classification,
5) vital findings, terms of motion system
6) Terms related to the respiratory system,
7) Terms related to heart and circulatory system,
8) Blood and lymph system related terms,
9) Terms related to the digestive system
10) Urinary and genital system terms
11) Terms related to the endocrine system,
12) Nervous system related terms,
13) Terms related to sense organs

1) Possess theoretical and practical knowledge supported by textbooks with updated information, practice equipments and other resource on basic level based on health qualifications gained at secondary education level.
2) Gain the skills to use basic level theoretical and practical knowledge acquired within the field in the same field of a higher education level or in a field of same level
3) Interpret and evaluate data, define problems, do analysis, produce solutions based on proof with using basic level knowledge and practices gained within the field
