General Information

Periodontology is a science that deals with the protection of the health of the soft and hard tissues around the teeth and dental implants, the diagnosis and treatment of their diseases.
The incidence of the severe form of periodontitis, which is characterized by the progressive destruction of the tissues supporting the tooth, is 11.2% and 7.4% according to the Global Burden of Disease 2010 and 2015 study. This ratio reveals that periodontitis is the sixth most common disease in the world.
Since its incidence is very high, it is accepted that periodontitis is an important public health problem. Since it can cause non-functional teeth and tooth loss, it adversely affects chewing movements and aesthetics.
A substantial portion of cases with complete edentulism or chewing problems are due to periodontitis. In addition, periodontitis increases the cost of oral and dental health treatments and may adversely affect the general health of patients. Periodontal infections; It is associated with many different systemic diseases and/or conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases.
