Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: THIS COURSE AIMS TO EVALUATE SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS IN TURKISH MODERN ARCHITECTURE FROM THE LATE 19TH CENTURY UNTIL 1960S VIA FOCUSING ON STYLE CHARACTERISTICS, ARCHITECTS AND ARCHITECTURAL DEVELOPMENTS OF THE FIRST AND SECOND NATIONAL ARCHITECTURE, INTERNATIONALISM, AND MODERNISM.
Course Content: THE COURSE INTENDS TO EVALUATE THE IDEA OF MODERNITY IN NON-WESTERN WORLDS LOOKING AT ARCHITECTURAL PRODUCTS IN TURKEY DURING THE FIRST DECADE OF THE 20TH CENTURY. THE THEMES OF NATIONALISM, AVANT-GARDES, OTHER MODERNİSMS, INTERNATIONALISM AND POST-MODERNISM ARE DISCUSSED WITHIN PROMINENT PRODUCTS OF EARLY 20TH CENTURY IN TURKEY.
