Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to evaluate 20th century art historically in the context of Modernism. Through chapters, readings, and case analyses, we will focus on key moments and stylistic trends, as well as, social and cultural relationships in the history of modern art from the mid 20th century to the present day. During the lectures, students will be exposed to the subject by means of text, lecture, discussion, and use of audio/visual resources.
Recognize and identify significant artists from the perspective of their artistic concerns, styles, and principal influences
Underline the critical importance of analyzing artistic styles and periods
Identify and discuss periods and styles of major art movements from Abstract Expressionism to the present day , and name artists associated with these movements
Examine the function of painting, sculpture, architecture and other arts from Impressionism to Surrealism
Appraise the function of painting, sculpture, architecture, other arts and period styles from Impressionism to Surrealism
