Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is that teacher candidates are able to know theories and practices underlying child mental health and to transfer their knowledge to the children and families in educational settings.
Course Content: Definition of mental health, its importance; history of mental health; theories about mental health; the characteristics of individuals who are mentally normal and abnormal; diagnosis and treatment of behavioral and adjustment problems seen in children [stuttering, mutism, enuresis, encopresis, finger sucking, nail eating, aggression, jealousy, tics, stubbornness, sleep disorders, dietary habits disorder, fear, attention deficiency and hyperactivity, school fear, theft, lying]; special circumstances that affect the child's mental health within the family (divorce, step parents, death of the parents etc.)

6) Definition of the behavior and adaptation seen in children (stubbornness, sleeping disorders, dietary habits, fear, attention deficit and hyperactivity, school fear, theft, lying)
7) How to deal with compliance problems
8) Midterm
9) The concept of death and coping process in early childhood
10) Special circumstances within the family (divorce, step parents, parental death, etc.)
11) Coping with family situations
12) Cooperation in the child's mental health process
