Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Subtitle techniques are emphasized. Theoretical and experimental studies are treated equally. Practical studies of the subtitle technique follow the theoretical text studies. Documentaries, TV shows and movies are reviewed and their translations are subtitled.
Course Content: Arrangement of the translation to be created according to the general translation rules, style guide and formats in subtitle translation. Ensuring the adaptation of translation with video in professional standards. Learning and using general professional rules and tools to be used. General information about sound technology and voice-over. Studies on general project operation, determination of needs and planning in voice-over projects.

1) The student is expected to have the knowledge of technical equipment used in different media where subtitles are translated.
2) Despite the technical limitations of subtitle translation, it is expected to be able to produce meaningful and appropriate translated texts in subtitle translation of different genres of movies, documentaries and programs.
3) In the translation process, it is expected to be able to use research methods effectively and healthily, to justify the decisions taken in the process and to associate them with current theoretical texts.

2) Film reading and dialogue analysis

4) Segmentation exercises on the dialogue list or scenario text in order to make the said texts suitable for translation.
5) Translation exercises through audio-visual material whose dialogue is relatively close to everyday language.

7) Translating exercises based on materials whose dialogue texts are more complex than blockbusters.

1) Graduates are capable of performing written and oral translation in at least one field of expertise, in accordance with the existing needs of professional life.

5) Graduates use the contemporary tools and techniques required for the practice of translation, as well as information and communication technologies together with computer hardware and software knowledge required by the field.
