Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The main goal of this course is to introduce the major grammatical concepts and
categories associated with English syntax. The course will specifically focus on the basic units and processes of sentence formation in English grammar. It will also present a broader picture of what linguistic knowledge is regarding sentence structure with specific emphasis on the issue of Universal Grammar.
Course Content: English word and sentence structure; simple, compound and complex sentence structures; appropriate use of time, mode, appearance, roof and their context.

2) Students will be able to give an account of a syntax topic orally and in writing with greater independence and greater linguistic correctness.

4) Students will be able to distinguish and discuss differences in English language structure between speech and writing
5) Students will be able to distinguish differences between British and American language structure.
